3 Things to Know Before Moving from Florida to Asheville
I get it! Florida is an amazing State with so much to offer in terms of recreation, jobs, and real estate. I began my real estate career in Florida – so I know first-hand. Moreover, I grew up and went to school there. I know how hot, humid, and monotonous Florida can be. If you’re rethinking life in Florida, you’re not alone. Each year, Florida is one of the largest sources of relocation to Asheville and North Carolina as a whole. Among my customers coming from Florida, climate is cited as the number one reason for moving. North Carolina transplants (or future transplants) coming from Florida may be surprised to…
5 Reasons Why People are Relocating from California to Asheville
Asheville remains a popular destination for people relocating out of California, at least according to the US Census. Each year, California ranks among the top sources of transplants in Asheville, together with Charlotte, NC, Florida, and the North East. As I’ve mentioned before, COVID hasn’t dramatically changed this, at least not yet. In fact, it seems to have done the opposite. Here are some recent comments I’ve heard from folks who have made the move from California to Asheville: “We escaped from Los Angeles to the area and couldn’t be happier. Clean air, seasons, normal people, clean cities.” and this transplant who retired in Asheville… “Moved here in June from…
The Haywood: What’s Going on with Downtown Asheville’s Newest Condo Project?
The landscape of the downtown Asheville condo market could be changing drastically. The Haywood, a condo development originally approved for development and construction at 123 Haywood Street in downtown Asheville, may be converted into a hotel project. At a recent Design Review Committee meeting, the condo-hotel conversion was proposed, suggesting that the developers plan on flipping the existing approved condo project into a hotel. Initially, the condo development was marketed and sold off as an 18-unit luxury condo project. Today, units at The Haywood are still actively being marketed for sale. Market rate prices for a 1-bedroom unit in The Haywood hover around 600k. On a price per square foot…
Cabin Culture in Asheville and Western North Carolina
Cabin culture is deeply ingrained in Americana, and even more finely so in Appalachia. Thousands of cabins are sprinkled across the Carolinas alone, in every county, on almost every lake, river, stream, and hillside. They vary from rustic ship-lap chalets to impressive log estates, a-frames with 360-degree porches and cabins with mother-in-law suites. Some were built in the late 1890s while others were completed with smart-home technology of the early 2020s. North Carolina had ~192,000 seasonal or recreational homes in 2010, the 7th largest number of all the states. This figure may rise with the 2020 U.S. Census figures. After a year of such wild headlines and frenzy,…

One of the main reasons I moved to Asheville was to live close to trails. The ability to live so close to trails that I can explore a new one each week is one of the reasons why I think Asheville is the best place to live. So I love it when a fellow trail-enthusiast gives me a ring to talk about areas with great trail proximity. If you’re reading this, you probably already know there’s not a shortage of trail…
